The Ultimate McKenzie River Trout Fishing Experience

Enjoy trout fishing with an experienced local guide on the McKenzie, where fish readily take flies, lures, and bait.

Great Catches!

McKenzie River trout are known for being active, willing, and fun to target throughout the season. Whether you’re fly fishing or using traditional gear, this river offers consistent chances to hook up, making it a great option for families, first-timers, and anglers who want a productive day in classic Oregon water.

March Brown Hatch

As spring warms the valley, the March Brown hatch brings the first consistent dry fly action of the year, offering anglers a few weeks of exciting surface takes in classic McKenzie water.

Mother’s Day Caddis and Green Drakes

Through spring, the river comes alive with Mother’s Day Caddis and Green Drake hatches, keeping wild trout actively feeding on the surface in some of the season’s most rewarding dry fly conditions.

Fall Nymphing In October

In October, trout key in on drifting salmon eggs, creating excellent nymphing opportunities and the unique chance to fish alongside spawning salmon and opportunistic steelhead.

Choose How You Want To Fish

Fly Fishing

McKenzie trout fly fishing is all about matching what the river is doing. Whether we’re fishing dries during hatch windows, nymphing through productive runs, or adjusting the drift to match the current, the approach is always tailored to hatches, flows, and water type.

If you want help improving your fly fishing, learning the hatches, or simply getting the best possible day on the water, I’ll keep it straightforward and focused so you can enjoy the river and fish with confidence.

Trout Fishing With Traditional Gear

If you prefer spinners or bait, the McKenzie can be a great river for traditional gear fishing, too. In April, the McKenzie River begins receiving hatchery trout, and over the season, tens of thousands are stocked. These fish are fun to target and a great option for families or anglers who want steady action.

As your trout fishing guide in Oregon, I’m happy to accommodate your gear preference, and if you’d like the option of fishing both gear and flies, we can do that as well. Hatchery trout can be kept and make excellent table fare. Limits are typically five trout per angler, and it’s common for anglers to catch limits during the season.
